Its finally here!! After the long bitterly cold and snowy winter the unofficial start of summer is finally here Memorial day. I know that I will probably be grilling up some of my favorite recipes this weekend, but I wanted to share some tips with you to not have this summer ruined by countless hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and ice cream binges. Here are a few tips that can save your waistline so you can look good in your swimsuit all summer long.
Use lean turkey meat instead of ground beef. If you want to put these patties even higher up on the nutritional scale try combining veggies into your ground turkey. Chop up some kale, spinach, onion and garlic to make them pack a nutritional punch!
Instead of using mayonnaise in potato salad substitute greek yogurt.
Use beans instead of pasta, a great high fiber dish and a healthy addition to any BBQ. My spanish bean salad is delicious! Also beans with their higher fiber content will help you stay fuller longer.
Cut out the soda, yes even diet. Swap for some unsweetened iced tea, flavored seltzer water or favorite mix of water infusion for a no calorie healthy drink alternative.
One of my favorite things about the start of summer is the long walks that my son and I can take. So along with eating healthy it is always a good idea to get out and enjoy the sunshine and increase your physical activity even by just walking!
Below enjoy one of my families favorite bean salad recipes. This salad is always a hit at any BBQ.
