Poughkeepsie, NY-January 12, 2014–Digestive Disease Center of the Hudson Valley, the region’s leading Gastroenterology Medical Practice, will host an informative session on Hepatitis C on Thursday, January 30th at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Conference Room B.
The lecture, which begins at 5:30 pm, will target baby boomers and explain the recent recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The organization is urging everyone born between 1945 and 1965 to get screened for the disease.
“The only way to know if you have Hepatitis C is to get tested,” says Dr. Tamer Sargios, a board-certified gastroenterologist with Digestive Disease Center, who will be facilitating the discussion. “Early detection of Hepatits C can literally save lives.”
The CDC says 75% percent of all people with Hepatitis C are baby boomers. Hepatitis C is a liver disease that results from an infection with the Hepatitis C Virus. For some, it can cause serious health problems, including liver damage, cirrhosis and death. Hepatitis C is the leading cause of liver cancer and the leading reason for liver transplants.
